What is chiropractic?

Per Harvard Health, Chiropractic is a system of therapy focused on the structure of the body, particularly the spine. Chiropractors manipulate the body's alignment to relieve pain and improve function and to help the body heal itself. While the mainstay of chiropractic is spinal manipulation, chiropractic care may also include other treatments, including manual or manipulative therapies, postural and exercise education, and ergonomic training (how to walk, sit, and stand to limit back strain). Chiropractors today often work in conjunction with primary care doctors, pain experts, and surgeons to treat patients with pain.

What is evidence-based chiropractic?

Evidence-based chiropractic care is an approach to health care that focuses on using the best available research to inform clinical decisions. Practitioners of evidence-based chiropractic care use a combination of scientific evidence, clinical expertise, and patient values and preferences to guide their decisions about treatment.

Evidence-based chiropractors use high-quality, peer-reviewed research to guide their decisions about what treatments to use and how to use them. Treatments that have been shown to be effective through scientific study, rather than relying on tradition or anecdotal evidence, will be used.

Evidence-based chiropractic practitioners utilize a variety of treatments, including manual therapy, exercise, and other interventions to help their patients. They work closely with other healthcare providers and make referrals when appropriate.
